Let’s talk about the real-life sandwich that inspired our newest toy. A Bánh Mì is a delicious Vietnamese sandwich, typically packed with grilled meats, pickled veggies, herbs, and sometimes a swipe of pâté or mayo — all inside a crisp, airy baguette.

But this isn’t just any sandwich—it’s a story in every bite. The baguette arrived in Vietnam during French colonial rule in the 1800s. By the 1950s, local ingredients and creativity transformed it into something entirely new.

During wartime shortages, Vietnamese bakers mixed rice flour into their baguettes (hello, innovation!) and created a lighter, crunchier bread. This blend gave the sandwich its name: “Bánh Mì,” meaning “bread made from wheat and rice flour.” Add affordable meats, homemade pickles, herbs, and a touch of French flair — and the bánh mì we know and love was born.
